A bonfire commission to form the centre piece at a special birthday party.
The customer requested a basket of flowers- so early on Tuesday morning myself Robbie, Shaun (both late) and Mike filled a tipper transit with waste wood and headed of to the beautiful home which is to be the venue of the party. We started work at a bit after 9am and I think it was a little after 6pm when we left. Here is a few photo's from the build.
The motley crew; Robbie, Shaun and Mike.
Main posts in and strutted
We thought it looked like we was preparing for a lynching- with a coffin ready to hand too!
The coffin as you can see in this photo is there to create a chimney which should hopefully draw the flames to the top of the sculpture so the top will light almost first.
We even drew an audience!
Here we are creating the profile of the basket. We then went on to add the hooped handle. While Mike broke up a load of fence panels to create the woven basket effect.
With the light fadding fast we started making the flowers to apply to the foliage.
Gorgeous light though!
Here we are cutting petals for the flowers
And in the dark we finally finished- this blury picture shows the scale (and Mike and Robbie)
Hopefully the plan is to light the fire with a torch through the square hole in the front, with the fire lit, it will draw up the chimney and hopefully the foliage and flowers will light before the basket. Around the base to about 5' is lots of hefty beams which should mean the heart of the fire will burn well into the night.
I hope I may be able to get the burn videoed- If I do I'll add it to this blog.
